November 2010

Our LB Nel has given birth to 5 pups, 4 dogs and 1 bitch.

She went peaceful after a life which brought success in sheep herding trials and
whereby she leaves behind wonderfull kids.

An excellent result at the BCCN promotion class trial on 13 and 14 november in Haaksbergen,
where Lowland's Blacksmith Sweep made first place and Lowland's Blacksmith Mase ended as runner up.
For Mase, this was his first trial in the promotion class.

John herding in the dunes

I'm appropached by the local water company the do herding with sheep in the dunes near the town of Bergen in the Netherlands.
Its a test to find out how the vegitation holds, or the sheep do their job as planned and eat what needs to be eaten and leave the rest alone. Important as well is how the public will react to this.
I'm now doing this for one and a halve week and really enjoy myself. Its great to do this and I'm getting lots of positive raactions from bypassers.
In principle I use my Bess, who's my trial dog for the sheeptrial competition, but when needed I can also make use of Lizz, she competes one class lower in the sheeptrial competition.
Herding does take more from a dog than sheeptrial. A trial takes 10 till 12 minutes in which the dog needs to show his competance.
With herding, they are whole day busy with doing the thing they are breeded for.
SUPER to see this and to work this way.
The test is completed by end october and, hopefully, starts again next year may.
Right after the new lambs are born and maybe by that time a new sheep-fold has been placed.

Click here for many more photos of the herding.
